NARRATIVE

North Carolina A&T State University has an adequate number of academic and student support services staff, with appropriate education and experience in student support service areas to accomplish the mission of the institution.

Employees in Student Services positions are responsible for gathering and managing data; making decisions within university policy; interpreting, communicating, and adhering to institutional policies and procedures; developing and establishing adequate business processes and internal controls; monitoring and evaluating patterns and recommending alternative courses of action; personnel management and scheduling; student development; developing and maintaining effective working relationships with and among students, parents, faculty and staff; and providing excellent customer service.  This work also includes planning, developing, and implementing student support programming that complements academic programming.

The minimum educational requirement for any student service position is a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Many of the positions require master’s degrees, and in some cases JDs, MDs or PhDs.  All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

A list of non-teaching employees who provide academic and student services is provided, with CVs linked, to give a clear understanding of the types of personnel who provide academic and student support services at the university, and provide evidence of their qualifications.  This does not represent everyone who serve students every day.

N.C.A&T maintains the applications and resumes for each employee. All positions are posted through the university’s PeopleAdmin system, which is managed by the Division of Human Resources. Managers supervise the hiring of clerical and administrative staff.  All leaderships/supervisory positions have search committees to assist with the hiring. Minimum qualifications are stated in the position announcements, and all qualifications are verified by HR before the employee is put on payroll.

The two primary divisions that provide academic and student support services are (a) Academic Affairs and (b) Student Affairs.  These units are led by highly qualified and very well experienced employees.  The CV for the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is linked as is the CV for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.  Table 12.2-i provides five examples of service units and the staff available to provide academic and student support.
