(b)   Change in Accreditation Status

In 2014, the Nursing and Dietetics degree programs were both placed on warning by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. The National Association of Schools of Theatre requested a progress report on compliance with standards regarding the physical facilities. However, it is important to note that the United States Department of Education (USDOE) recognized agency has never terminated accreditation with N.C. A&T. Please see the following information regarding each of these programs.

Nursing Program.  In 2014, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) ruled that N.C. A&T would be on probationary accreditation status due to students’ performance on the nursing licensing exam. However, in 2015 N.C. A&T successfully appealed the decision, and the probationary status was lifted. In 2016, the ACEN Board of Commissioners voted to affirm continuing accreditation to the baccalaureate nursing program as the program met all of the accreditation standards and criteria (letter provided). The ACEN also affirmed that the next onsite accreditation review will be in Spring 2022.

Dietetics Degree Program.  The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics ruled that N.C. A&T would be on probationary accreditation due to failure of students in the Didactic Dietetics concentration to complete internships leading to passage of the board exam to become a Registered Dietician. N.C. A&T submitted a plan of action, which was accepted, but ultimately decided to discontinue the program. Accreditation of this program continued until 2017 and upper level students completed the program.  In 2017, N.C. A&T decided to voluntarily withdraw from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. The accreditation of the Didactic Dietetics concentration ended in 2017.  SACSCOC was notified of the discontinuation of the program by letter dated June 4, 2015. The university no longer offers the program.

National Association of Schools of Theatre.  The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) requested a progress report, to be delivered by March 2016 regarding compliance with standards for physical facilities to determine whether there was a need to install appropriate ventilation in the theater storage area. NAST found that there was not a need to install a ventilation system in the theater storage area (letter provided).

Notification of Accreditation Status

The institution has an established procedure for notification of accreditation status. To ensure accurate and consistent information about N.C. A&T’s accreditation status, OSPIE communicates specialized accreditation of the institution’s degree programs to the campus—colleges and deans, departments—as well as other stakeholders and other accrediting agencies. In addition, all accreditation decisions and documentation are filed in OSPIE and Deans and Department Chairs proudly post their accreditation status on their websites, for example the Deese College of Business and Economics and the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
